Design for the systems the cabling has to support.

Cable category, fibre type, pathways, rack capacity and power requirements are planned around the connected systems, distances and expected growth before installation begins.

    Copper and fibre are selected according to the required data rate, link distance, connected equipment and expected service life of the infrastructure.

    Pathways & Containment

    Cable routes, trays, conduits and containment are coordinated with the building and fit-out so data cabling can be installed, protected and maintained without unnecessary congestion.

    PoE & Connected Devices

    Wireless access points, cameras, phones and access-control devices may receive both data and power through the cabling. Cable selection, run length and supporting network equipment are considered together where Power over Ethernet is required.

    Capacity & Future Growth

    Rack space, spare capacity and backbone requirements are considered during design so future additions can be accommodated without rebuilding the physical network.

What Businesses Ask About Structured Cabling

01Cat6 or Cat6A — which should we use?

The right category depends on required bandwidth, cable length, Power over Ethernet requirements, installation conditions and how long the infrastructure is expected to remain in service. AMSS reviews those factors before recommending the appropriate cabling category.

02When should fibre be used instead of copper?

Fibre is generally considered for backbone links, longer distances, higher-capacity connections and environments where copper is not appropriate for the required link. The fibre type is selected according to the distance, equipment and network design.

03Do you test the installed cabling?

Yes. Installed links can be tested against the applicable cabling category or project requirements, with results and documentation provided according to the agreed project scope.
