01Which access method is best: cards, biometrics or mobile credentials?
There is no single credential type that suits every access point. Cards and fobs are practical for general users, biometrics can provide stronger identity verification where appropriate, and supported mobile credentials can reduce reliance on physical cards. The choice depends on the required security level, user volume and operating environment.
02Can access control manage several doors or buildings?
Yes. Supported networked access-control platforms can provide centralised user management, permissions and reporting across multiple doors, floors, buildings or locations. The architecture is selected according to the size of the system and expected future growth.
03What happens to access-controlled doors during a power failure or emergency?
Door behaviour is determined individually during design according to the lock type, egress requirements, emergency-release strategy, backup power and applicable project or authority requirements. Secure and escape-related openings should not be treated as one standard configuration.
04Can access control integrate with CCTV, intercom or gate barriers?
Yes, where the selected systems provide compatible integration. Access events can be coordinated with CCTV, intercom, intrusion and vehicle-access systems to support a more connected security environment.
05Does access control need to meet SIRA requirements in Dubai?
Requirements depend on the type of property, business activity and security-system scope. SIRA's Preventive Systems Manual includes technical requirements for access-control systems and security requirements for certain facilities. Where applicable, AMSS can coordinate the access-control scope with the relevant SIRA requirements.
